An established private university, with over 142 years of history, embarked on a multi-year initiative to improve its IT systems and integrate reporting for its Human Capital Management (HCM) data across various departments. With nearly 8,820 students and 800 faculty members, the university required a comprehensive approach to Data Reporting in Oracle HCM Cloud to address the complex needs of its academic and administrative functions.
The university chose Oracle HCM Cloud as a foundational platform to address its reporting requirements. To ensure this platform delivered maximum value, the university engaged DataTerrain to revamp its reporting system and improve its use of Oracle's capabilities in Insights and Reporting in Oracle HCM Cloud.
DataTerrain worked closely with the university’s stakeholders to capture and document specific reporting requirements. By leveraging their expertise in Oracle HCM Cloud Reporting and Analytics, DataTerrain advised on available solutions, including alternate methods for meeting requirements not directly supported by the system. They also utilized their pre-built report repository to accelerate the process of defining specifications.
During the design phase, DataTerrain mapped the business requirements to the Oracle HCM Cloud data model. The design process focused on choosing the most suitable reporting methods. These included the use of HCM Extracts in standard formats, Oracle Analytics Publisher for custom layouts, and OTBI Dashboards to provide users with detailed, filtered insights. The reports were structured to meet both the university’s administrative and academic tracking needs.
Once the design phase was completed, DataTerrain developed the required reports or modified existing ones. This process involved adding new fields, adjusting report layouts, and ensuring the reports aligned with the university’s tracking requirements, including payroll, compensation, and employee activity.
DataTerrain created and executed HDL (HCM Data Loader) and HSDL (HCM Spreadsheet Data Loader) processes for data loads in areas such as Compensation and HR. These tools were essential in ensuring that the data loaded into the system was accurate and aligned with the university’s reporting needs.
After the reports were developed, DataTerrain validated them using test cases in collaboration with university users. Once the reports were tested and accepted in the production environment, they were handed over to the university team. Detailed documentation was provided, and DataTerrain conducted knowledge transfer sessions to ensure that the university’s internal teams were well-equipped to maintain and use the reports effectively.
With the new Oracle HCM Cloud Reporting and Analytics reports in place, the university was able to gain access to actionable, real-time insights across its HR, compensation, and payroll functions. This enabled improved decision-making and more efficient management of university resources. The university is now better positioned to meet the evolving needs of its academic and administrative teams, leveraging the full capabilities of Oracle HCM Cloud for improved operational tracking and reporting.
