A nationally recognized CANCER Treatment Facility engaged DataTerrain to support the modernization of its reporting environment. The institution had historically used SAP Crystal Reports to support administrative, clinical, and research reporting functions. As part of a broader technology modernization strategy, the facility initiated a migration from SAP Crystal Reports to TIBCO Jaspersoft, leveraging DataTerrain’s automation engine to ensure high accuracy, rapid delivery, and minimal manual rework.
The goal was to replace legacy reporting tools with scalable, performance-optimized solutions, while ensuring continued support for research teams, clinical staff, and executive leadership.
The project focused on converting 750 reports to Jaspersoft and optimizing them for compatibility with Oracle 19c in a secure, production-grade environment.
The core objectives of the reporting transformation included :
The facility selected DataTerrain for its proven expertise in automated report conversion and deep knowledge of Jaspersoft architecture. DataTerrain’s Crystal to Jaspersoft Converter allowed rapid conversion of complex reports while preserving data logic and formatting. The use of automation helped reduce the project timeline and ensured a seamless user transition.
The project began with a complete inventory of 750 SAP Crystal Reports. These reports were analyzed, categorized, and processed in DataTerrain’s controlled environment. As part of this phase :
Using DataTerrain’s proprietary automation engine, the reports were programmatically converted from SAP Crystal Reports 2020 to TIBCO Jaspersoft Studio 6.14.0 format. This ensured:
Reports were tested for pixel-perfect layout, data accuracy, and business rule conformity prior to release.
After thorough validation, reports were deployed from the DataTerrain staging environment into the CANCER Treatment Facility’s production instance. Reports were integrated into existing workflows using Oracle 19c as the back-end database.
This stage ensured that:
Each converted report underwent:
This collaborative quality assurance process ensured confidence in report accuracy and usability before deployment.
Parallel to this migration effort, the CANCER Treatment Facility also transitioned from a legacy IBM DB2-based environment to a modern Databricks / Apache Spark infrastructure under EPIC. The MSKCC BI Team, a part of the Dataline group, now supports clinical, administrative, and research users with real-time dashboards using Tableau and on-demand Cognos reporting.
Over 800 additional reports were delivered, combining legacy data (IBM DB2) and EPIC data (Databricks) to provide a unified, actionable reporting framework across departments.
The SAP Crystal Reports to TIBCO Jaspersoft migration delivered multiple advantages:
By migrating from SAP Crystal Reports to TIBCO Jaspersoft, the CANCER Treatment Facility achieved a modernized, scalable, and user-centric reporting infrastructure. The project enabled secure, accurate, and high-performance reporting to support clinical care, research, and executive decision-making.
With structured automation, stakeholder collaboration, and a commitment to data integrity, DataTerrain delivered a solution that supports the facility’s ongoing digital transformation efforts.
With experience supporting over 300 clients across the U.S., DataTerrain continues to be a trusted partner for enterprise reporting transformations.
