GLOBAL FINANCIAL SERVICES FIRM
A large international financial firm relied on a substantial portfolio of Hyperion SQR reports across investment banking, commercial lending, private equity, and compliance. As Hyperion SQR aged, became increasingly unsupported, and grew costly to maintain, the firm needed to modernize to a supported, scalable BI platform without disrupting daily reporting.
The firm engaged DataTerrain for an Automated Hyperion SQR-to-Oracle Analytics Server (OAS) migration, a fixed-cost, automation-driven approach that replicates each report's original layout, structure, and business logic in OAS. The scope covered 200 reports, each of which had to be generated in both CSV and PDF.
Migrating 200 business-critical reports from Hyperion SQR to Oracle Analytics Server meant preserving exact functionality while solving several platform-specific problems, particularly around output generation and where business logic lived:
OAS has no straightforward way to produce CSV built at runtime from the specific columns a user selects, yet the reports required exactly that.
Each of the 200 reports had to be generated in both CSV and formatted PDF formats.
Complex business logic and functions were implemented at the database level, invoked from the report data model, and had to remain unchanged.
Output formatting had to vary according to the user logged into the server.
The report structure, filters, and business logic had to be preserved so users could continue working without disruption or retraining.
DataTerrain's automation tool handled the bulk of the Automated Hyperion SQR to OAS migration, with targeted engineering for the platform-specific challenges:
With no native OAS mechanism for runtime CSV, DataTerrain used an XSL template to generate a dynamic text file based on the columns selected at runtime, then had the application rename the .txt output to .csv, delivering accurate, column-specific CSV for every report.
Each of the 200 reports was configured to generate in both CSV and PDF, so the same report can be consumed as formatted output or as raw data.
The complex business logic and functions already proven at the database level were retained and called directly from the OAS data model, preserving results and performance while avoiding risky re-implementation.
Formatting was driven by the user logged into the server, so each user sees output formatted for their profile and entitlements.
DataTerrain's automation tool replicated each report's original layout, structure, and logic in OAS, with testing and stakeholder validation confirming accuracy before rollout.
The full Hyperion SQR portfolio converted to Oracle Analytics Server with structure, filters, and logic preserved.
Every report is generable as both a CSV data file and a formatted PDF.
Runtime, column-driven CSV delivered via XSL templating where OAS had no native option.
Reports run faster in the modern Oracle Analytics Server environment.
Familiar report formats retained, with no change to daily business reporting routines.
Automation-driven migration completed on schedule at a predictable, fixed cost.
DataTerrain's fixed-cost, automation-driven Automated Hyperion SQR-to-OAS migration modernizes legacy reporting while preserving the exact reports users depend on. With 17+ years of experience, 400+ customers, and 27,000+ reports migrated, DataTerrain replicates original layout, structure, and business logic in Oracle Analytics Server, accelerating delivery, reducing labor costs, and ensuring reporting accuracy and business continuity.
