A REPUTED U.S. EDUCATIONAL ESTABLISHMENT
A leading U.S.-based reputable educational establishment embarked on a large-scale modernization initiative to migrate its legacy Oracle Hyperion Interactive Reporting (formerly BRIO) reports to Oracle BI Publisher. Managing hundreds of academic and administrative datasets, the institution needed a robust, scalable solution to ensure long-term support, data consistency, and compliance with audit standards.
Using DataTerrain's proprietary automation engine, 325 BRIO reports were converted, customized, tested, and deployed into the customer's production environment over a six-month timeline. The project then transitioned into a 12-year support and maintenance phase, an enduring relationship that continues to ensure report accuracy and ongoing enhancements.
The institution needed to retire an outdated reporting platform while preserving the fidelity of hundreds of reports its academic and administrative teams relied on. The key objectives and challenges:
Outdated Hyperion/BRIO reports had to move to a modern, supported reporting framework.
Complex report designs needed to be replicated exactly, with compliance-ready output.
Approximately 325 academic and administrative reports required conversion.
Reports had to remain accurate and complete when validated against production data.
The solution had to meet audit standards with proper controls and traceability.
The new platform needed to support scalable deployment, real-time reporting, and future compatibility.
Automation was needed to reduce manual rework and speed up report delivery.
Migrated reports had to replace BRIO seamlessly, without interrupting user workflows.
DataTerrain applied its automated Hyperion/BRIO-to-BI-Publisher converter and a controlled, phase-wise method, preserving critical data logic and report structure while accelerating delivery.
DataTerrain established a dedicated conversion environment, captured the source reports from Oracle Hyperion Interactive Reporting V9, analyzed logic complexity, and classified reports for priority-based conversion, configuring the automation engine for controlled processing before deployment.
Around 325 reports were converted into BI Publisher formats: pixel-perfect RTF layouts built with XSLT logic and advanced pivot tables implemented through custom XSLT to overcome native BI Publisher limitations, ensuring academic dashboards and administrative summaries maintained their visual and functional integrity.
Every report was tested for data accuracy and completeness, layout alignment and formatting consistency, and role-based access and user-level rendering, validated against production data to ensure a seamless replacement of BRIO reports.
Validated reports were deployed on Oracle BI Publisher 11, beginning a 12+ year support phase covering patch updates and BI Publisher upgrades, performance tuning and real-time bug resolution, and enhancements driven by curriculum and policy changes.
A platform compatible with Oracle's evolving BI stack, ready for what comes next.
Built-in compliance through audit trails and document control.
Reduced turnaround times for internal and external reporting.
Report logic separated from layout, easing update workflows.
Automation cut developer dependency and errors.
Version control and centralized management scale with growing data and departments.
By leveraging DataTerrain's automation tools, experience with 300+ U.S. clients, and deep BI expertise, the Hyperion/BRIO-to-BI-Publisher migration was completed within six months and continues to deliver value more than a decade later. The result is a modern, maintainable, and scalable reporting ecosystem, backed by a partner trusted for complex reporting transformations across education, healthcare, and the public sector.
