AN Australia-based multinational technology company with more than 82 years of innovation set out to reinvent itself. Known as the second-largest global PC vendor, the company also manufactures printers, print supplies, and 3D printing solutions. As part of its transformation strategy, the leadership wanted to build highly personalized digital experiences and expand digital printing to disrupt industries worldwide.
To support this shift, the company needed the right talent, stronger digital capabilities, and improved visibility into workforce performance. Leadership selected Oracle Taleo for talent acquisition, tracking, and BI reporting across its global workforce.
When SAP BusinessObjects (BO) support for Taleo reporting ended, Oracle identified this organization as a flagship candidate for migration to OBIEE (Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition). As an established Oracle Partner with deep expertise in BI migrations, DataTerrain was chosen to lead this high-stakes project.
The customer outlined three critical requirements:
DataTerrain executed the migration using its proprietary automation tool and a Zero-Defect methodology designed to eliminate risk and ensure accurate 1-to-1 conversion of BO reports into OBIEE.
Legacy BO report files were deployed into DataTerrain’s environment for automated analysis. The assessment identified:
DataTerrain created a detailed project plan covering:
The plan was formally reviewed and approved by leadership and key stakeholders.
Based on the plan, DataTerrain configured its automation utility to migrate and validate all reporting assets. Key tasks included:
All work was performed remotely without touching customer data or systems.
After passing QA, reports were deployed into the customer’s test environment. Because users were involved throughout planning and review, acceptance was smooth with no surprises. Once approved, the reports moved to production and were rolled out to the global user community.
DataTerrain applied Oracle-recommended design and development standards. Its automation tool handled BO-specific elements—such as multi-query reports—and accurately converted them into OBIEE Answers.
The migration delivered a precise 1-to-1 conversion, retaining the original look, feel, and business logic of reports. This minimized retraining and preserved years of domain knowledge.
Using DataTerrain’s follow-the-sun model, teams across global delivery centers kept the project moving continuously without burdening the customer’s IT environment.
DataTerrain followed the customer’s internal change-management process to ensure accuracy, transparency, and consistent communication.
The customer’s Taleo reporting was successfully migrated from SAP BO to OBIEE on time and within budget, with zero disruption. The new OBIEE environment now gives the company:
With improved analytics, the organization is now better positioned to fulfill its vision of enabling people everywhere to live, work, learn, and create more effectively.
